When you're investing in a professional headshot, the background you choose makes a big difference in the tone, personality, and overall impression your image gives off.
At Draper Studios, I offer two primary styles of headshots—studio and environmental—and each serves a different purpose. Not sure which one’s right for you? Let’s break it down.
Studio headshots are clean, timeless, and distraction-free. They’re typically shot against a plain background—white, gray, or black—and put the full focus on your face.
This option is ideal if:
Studio shots give consistency and clarity. They work well across most platforms and are often preferred for legal, medical, or corporate settings.
Environmental headshots are taken in real-world locations—often using beautiful natural light and settings that feel dynamic and modern.
Think: leaning against a textured wall, walking down a well-lit corridor, or standing with the Denver skyline subtly blurred in the background.
This option is perfect if:
Environmental portraits offer a touch of personality and movement—making them a favorite for websites, social media, and personal branding.
If you’re unsure, you’re not alone. The good news? Either one can be polished and professional—it just depends on your goals.
In fact, many of my clients choose to do a quick version of both during their session so they have options.
Want help deciding? I’m happy to weigh in once I know how you’ll be using the images.
If you’ve already booked your session—amazing. Just make sure to bring a couple outfit options and get a good night’s rest. We’ll handle the rest together.
And if you haven’t booked yet, I’d love to help you create something you’re proud to use everywhere you show up.
